Dancers Night Out 2011 - Honoring Victor Mayovanex

Edwin Rivera and staff organized its 8th annual Dancers Night Out event, honoring Karisma Dance Company director Victor Mayovanex. Invited performers included Karisma, Santo Rico, Caribbean Soul, Heartbreak Boyz, the Sweethearts, Carlos and Arlette, Tropical Image, and Bajari de Yamulee.

Paris in Spring 2011

Sekou McMiller and his repertory dance company threw another social in NY, leading up to a planned event in July. They featured guest performers Piel Canela, Unified Dancers, Los Divos, and Shanis Girls.

Blackout Series Jam 2011

In Da Clutch entertainment from (South) New Jersey threw their Blackout Series Jam event in March as a fundraiser to help bring their dance team to the Hip-Hop championships in Las Vegas this July. The event included battles with breakdancing, popping, and other forms of dance.

Dancers Night Out 2010 - Honoring Abbey Plotkin

The 7th Annual Dancers Night Out honors a member of the New York and New Jersey salsa and mambo community. This year, Edwin Rivera honors the original member of the Mambo Mamas, Abbey Plotkin. Abbey is a longtime performer and promoter of socials in NY. Edwin also invited artists such as the Sweethearts and the Heartbreak Boyz, East Side Edition, Santo Rico, Caribbean Soul, and Junior and Emily.

Philly Jam 4 2010

Returning for yet another year is the 4th annual Philly Jam 4 promoted by Nick Padin and Melissa Pabon. Some of the artists included Calle Luna and Calle Sol, Caribbean Soul, Frenesi Dance Company (Cristina & Adrian), Gordon Neil & Julissa Cruz, Mambo Orleans, and Mambo Dinamico.

New Orleans Jam 2010

Nick Padin teamed up with the Mambo Orleans dance company for the 2010 New Orleans Jam and invited Ismael & Shani (Caribbean Soul), Melissa Rosado, Noel & Melissa, and Rekreation dancers.

The fourth annual 2009 World Salsa Championships faced a number of challenges in this difficult economic climate, but wasn't deterred in organizing a great competition. La Vieja Guardia 1st Anniversary 2009

The La Vieja Guardia social in New York is celebrated its first anniversary in style.

Promoters Joel Dominguez, DJ Antonio Esquievel, and Alfredo Felix invited the Bronx's Yamulee Dance Company, Adolfo Indacochea & Carla, and Joel and Melissa Rosado, along with Orquesta Dee Jay.

 
Art in Motion 5th Anniversary 2009

Art in Motion Latin dancers celebrated their 5th anniversary in Philadelphia. A mix of former dancers/alumni and new dancers came together to perform a "medley" or collection of their performances throughout the years. Also invited was the ClaveKazi student group, 13 Days, and new dance team Joie de Vivre.

Veteran musician Jimmy Bosch held his CD release party for his new album, “¡A Million!”, at the Imperial Club in New York with Mike Pena, Izzy Rodriguez, and Marlon "International" Mills. This is his fourth album, nearly five years after his third effort.

Yesenia Peralta celebrated her birthday in May at her Dance Factor Studio in Union City, NJ with Tropical Image, Xibicion Santo Rico, and Koncepto Karisma.

Burju Shoes NY Runway Show 2009

Nuevotec was on location for the New York Launch Party & Runway Show for Burju Shoes in late April. Burju Perez, also of Hacha y Machete, invited colleagues, friends, and family to view her new line of shoes for dancers and the wedding market, in collaboration with Karina Jimenez of Something Blue NY. Among the models were Melissa Rosado, Duplessey Walker, Lori Perez, Stracy Diaz, Aurora Fiorentino Scerbo, and Karel Flores.

Jimmy Anton 16th Anniversary Social 2009

The longest running social in New York from Jimmy Anton celebrated its 16th anniversary with the 21 piece Latin Giants Orchestra.

Boston Salsa Congress 2009

Promoter and performer Nick Padin threw together his most successful event to date - Philly Jam 3. Salseros from Philly, New Jersey, New York, DC, Boston and Chicago came out and showed their love. Some of the invited artists included Urban Vibe, Masacote, Lena Dance Company, Calle Luna, Fuzion Creativa, Art in Motion, Estilo, and Project B dancers.
 
DJ Jose Rodriguez Birthday 2009 & La Epoca 2 Filming

Philly's DJ Jose Rodriguez celebrated his birthday in his second home of Washington DC with Stuck on Salsa. The event also featured filming for La Epoca 2 - The Lost Rhythms in Salsa by Josue Joseph. Both Fuzion Creativa and the ClaveKazi student team performed, with DJ La Clave playing the tunes for the party.

Latin Fever 5th Anniversary 2009

Marisol Ramirez and the Latin Fever Dance Studio celebrated their 5th anniversary in Brooklyn, NY. They invited special guests Latin Reflections, Carolyn Hulse Dance Troupe, East Side Edition, in addition to their kids group Latin Fever Dynasty, and pro group.

In addition to several Estilo salsa, mambo, and kids teams, Mike invited several dance companies such as Joe Figueroa's Living in Rhythm, Lou Lopez from the CT Salsa Fest, and a collaboration with La Luna Dance Studio.

La Epoca - The Palladium Era - Film Screening Philadelphia 2009

George Dennis invited producer Josué Joseph to Philadelphia for the film screening of "La Epoca - The Palladium Era" at Drexel University (with help from Brett). The documentary covers Mambo, the roots behind the umbrella term "Salsa," and its affects on the generations of musicians and dancers that have followed since its conception.
 
La Luna Pro-Am Salsa Competition 2009

La Luna Dance Studio in Bensalem, Pa, held its first annual Pro-Am Salsa Competition, teaming its instructors and students. The teachers included Amber Rawls, Mike Andino, Star Sequinot, and Jose Maldonado.

Two of the University of Pennsylvania's dance and music troupes, Onda Latina and African Rhythms, come together in the spirit of unity and cooperation with Orishas: Two Rhythms, One Spirit. The show features live music from African Rhythm's drum core, and African and Latin / Caribbean dances.

Club Paradise Reunion 2008

Club Paradise was the spot to go to for salsa in New Jersey in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Many of New Jersey's best dancers, including Ismael Otero, Yesenia Peralta, and Griselle Ponce first started teaching and dancing at the club. Dany Joshua of Scarlet Mambo invited patrons of the original Paradise to the 360 Lounge in New Brunswick, NJ.

Washington DC Salsa Congress 2008

National and international dancers came to the 4th annual Washington DC Salsa Congress organized by Shaka Brown, ClaveKazi, and iMambo.tv. Some of the performing artists included Leon Rose and Noemi Millon, Junior and Emily, Mambo Dinamico, and Team Carnaval.

They invited performers Luis Aguilar and Anya Katsevman, and Jose Aguilar and Marina Salinas. Social dancers and pros came to the event, such as Magna Gopal, Sekou McMiller, and Shaka Brown.

Yamulee 5th Anniversary 2008

One of the world's most premiere mambo teams, Yamulee Dance Company, celebrated their 5th anniversary in Bronx, NY. This team is led by talented director Osmar Perrones, Ahmed Zakaria, and Karel Flores.

Scarlet Mambo Inaugural Social 2008

Central New Jersey has a thriving salsa scene with the first Scarlet Salsa Social from Scarlet Mambo's Dany Joshua and Camila Sanchez. Dany held a styling battle between his own men's styling class and invited guest Yesenia Peralta's ladies styling class.
 
Salsa Salsa 5th Anniversary

Marcus Gonzales and Ray Colon from Brooklyn's Salsa Salsa Dance Studio invited students, friends, and performers to celebrate its 5th anniversary. Invited guests included Baila Society and Enixe Dance Company.

Yesenia Dance Factory - Grand Opening 2008

There's a new studio in Union City, New Jersey with Yesenia's Dance Factory. Yesenia Peralta and her staff celebrated the grand opening of the school with performances by ClaveKazi, Sekou and Chachi, Jose Aguilar and Mariana Salinas, Sangre Nueva, and Shani''s Girls.

House of Dance - Jerseys Finest July 2008

Griselle Ponce and The House of Dance held their Jersey's Finest experience social in Passaic, New Jersey in July. Headling the event were the champions of the NY/NJ Salsa Open competition, Luis Aguilar and Anya Katsevman.
 
Atrium Summer Spectacular Show 2008

Barbara Capaldi and the Atrium Dance Studio held their summer showcase, called the Summer Salsa Spectacular in their studio in Pennsauken, New Jersey. The showcase includes performances that display a wide range of the studio's offering, including salsa, hip-hop, line dancing, and ballroom dancing.

Las Vegas Salsa Congress 2008

The 5th Annual Las Vegas Salsa Congress attracted salseros from the east and west coast, midwest, and Puerto Rico. Promoted by the Sin City Salseros (Nathan Strager and Oscar Coranado) with David Nieto, the staff brought one of the finest groups in the world, Tropical Gem. The event featured great performances, live music, workshops, and social dancing.

Philadelphia Salsa Congress 2008

2008 marks the fifth anniversary for the Philadelphia Salsa Congress. Live music included the legendary Adalberto Santiago at the Pennsylvania Conevention Center.
 
New Swing Sextet - Back on the Streets

Nearly 35 years after their last album, the New Swing Sextet is releasing the CD, "Back on the Streets" (A Taste of Spanish Harlem, Vol 2). The album includes a mix of old cover and new tracks, including "El Tiroteo", "Flight", and "the Monster" (by original member and vibraphone player George Rodriguez).

Nuevotec was on hand at the Taj Lounge for the legendary band with live music and dancing.


Stardust - NY Meets Philly 2008

New York invades the Stardust! The Stardust Ballroom is a longtime attraction for salsa dancers in the Philly, South Jersey, and Delaware area. Dress to impress socials are held twice a month every 2nd and 4th Saturday. On June 28, event organizer Paul Loftland of Paul Loftland Photography brought world renowed DJ Henry Knowles, Duplessey Walker, Melanie Torres, and Sabor Latina for some New York flavor.

MDN Latin Dance Social June 2008

Marcus Nieves from the MDN Latin Dance Studio in Belleville, New Jersey holds a social every month. In June, Marcus (who has trained with Luis Zegarra, Nelson Flores, and Eddie Torres) invited the Santo Rico Dance Company to his event. Santo Rico performed a medley with its semipro group, Xibicion Santo Rico.
 
Fantagious CD Release Theater Production

Fantagious - A world where music and dance collide. (from the Fantagious program). Well put. Celebrating Ritmo Masacote's second latin jazz album entitled Fantagious, this CD release theater production combined live music from the 11 piece latin jazz ensemble, original dance performances from the Masacote Dance Company, close-up magic from Marshall Weller, improvisational comedy and acting from Lee Rios, and the singing debut of artist Gordon Neil.

This fusion of latin jazz music, vocals, ballet, modern, and salsa dance choreography, plus comedy, and close-up illusion and magic marked an innovative and entertaining theater production.


Connecticut Salsa Fest 2008

The largest salsa event in Connecticut moves to the beautiful Hilton in Stamford. Luis Lopez and the staff at the Connecticut Salsa Fest continue to bring a great combination of workshops, performances, and social dancing.

Pulpo - Hot Bread & Salsa-Central.com

Veteran musician Gilberto "Pulpo" Colon, Jr. releases his debut album, Hot Bread, after 30 years in the music business. Pulpo has played piano for such notable artists as Hector Lavoe and Adalberto Santiago. Chris Soto from The Mambo Project helped bring the project to fruition as producer.

Mario B Birthday Social 2008

Our good friend Mario Gonzales celebrated his birthday at his Salsa Fever on2 Dance Academy in Jersey City, NJ. Joining him were friends, family, students, and dance peers in his own groups Plan B dancers, Santo Rico, and Caribbean Soul.

LuvSalsa Amateur Competition 2008

In March, amateurs performed two minute choreographed routines to compete at the first annual LuvSalsa Amateur Competition.. Six brave couples from Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Delaware participated that night. Jonathan and Andrea from Dance Crush studios edged the competition out as the 2008 champions.

Boston Salsa Congress 2008

April Genovese and John "Choco" Knight brought salsa back to the largest city in New England with the 4th annual Boston Salsa Congress. Home to groups such as Masacote, Hacha y Machete, and Salsa y Control, the congress attracted dancers from areas like Toronto and Chicago.
 
Estilo Spring Showcase 2008 - Hector Lavoe

In March, Philadelphia's Estilo Dance Studio featured its Spring Showcase - A Tribute to Hector Lavoe. In the spirit of honoring the salsa legend, students and pros performed routines spanning the songs of Hector (and related musicians) entire career. Chicago Salsa Congress 2008

Stardust Grand Reopening 2007

For over 8 years, the Stardust Ballroom has served Philly and South Jersey salseros as one of the largest venues in the area. In May 2007, they shut down. Like a phoenix, the studio was reborn in December. Paul Loftland and his staff helped bring the venue back.

World Salsa Championships 2007

With the increasing number of quality dancers competing in each division, combined with record crowd attendance, the 3rd annual World Salsa Championships has found a new home in Orlando, Florida. 2005-2006 champions Abel Pena and Zulmara Torres (on1), Oliver Pineda and Luda Kroitor (on2) made it a three-peat. Swing Latino (team) won the crown for the second year in a row.

Chivas Regal Competition 2007

Once again, Toronto hosted the 5th annual Canada Salsa Congress. Jennifer Aucoin and the staff helped pack the dance floor with fabulous performances and workshops. The event attracted dancers from Canadian cities such as Vancouver, Edmonton, Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary and Toronto.

San Diego Salsa Festival 2007

San Diego is back, and we've never left. Angel and Tulane Rivera with Albert Torres Productions organized the first large format salsa event in San Diego since the 2005 Congress. And the results exceeded their expectations. With local talents such as Iran Castillo, Majesty in Motion, Juan and Susie, in addition to groups such as Tito and Tamara, and Hacha y Machete, the festival set the precedent for future events.
